Anti-Counterfeiting & Traceability
Counterfeitting costs billions of dollars, cripples production runs and can even endanger life. Lantek Corporation is committed to continuously tackling the threat of counterfeit electronic components.
The semiconductor industry is incredibly important to the global economy and, of course, that of the United States. In America, the entire sector is worth in the region of $170 billion, supports over one million jobs and is the country’s fourth biggest export after airplanes, refined oils and motor vehicles.
However, this comes at a cost. The Semiconductor Industry Association estimates that counterfeiting costs $7.5 billion a year in lost revenues and this staggering amount is arguably under-estimated. With large profits as the prize, the market has become flooded with fraudulent parts that often get lost in the supply chains of companies both large and small.
Just the presence of one forged component is one too many. These parts pose a serious financial and legal liability to the entire electronics industry as the presence of a solitary fake component can have grave consequences.
Since our foundation in 1994, we have been committed to tackling this problem.
As an independent distributor of electronic components, we deal with hard-to-find and obsolete components on a daily basis. Because of this, we have to be on our guard to protect our valued customers against the threats that counterfeiting poses.
For more than twenty years, we have constantly invested in and improved our anti-counterfeiting procedures and monitored our relationships with our suppliers. Alongside this, we ensure that specialized purchasing is done centrally, something which gives us the chance to implement greater safety and quality checks on the components that we source for our customers.
But our preventative steps do not end at the sourcing stage. When the goods arrive at our headquarters, we perform a number of inspections to ensure the legitimacy of the parts. These steps can include visual and high-resolution optical checks, digital micrometer measurements and chemical testing.
We also work with semiconductor manufacturers and other distributors to trace and monitor the presence of counterfeit components, tracing these parts back to source.
Lantek Corporation wants to help combat these risks posed by counterfeit electronic components.
We will continue to provide updates on the steps that we are taking to secure our customers’ supply chains and to eliminate counterfeiting from the electronics industry altogether.
